Life with Walter is incredibly wonderful, challenging, and increasingly enlightening. There’s something about spending so much time with such a little human that allows me to see old things as new again, and the tiniest of discoveries as great joys. Every day brings fresh expressions, sounds, and challenges to little fingers and feet.
He allows me to see God’s love even in the most desperate of times, as I am reminded that I get to spend my days with a tiny living saint, who knows nothing of evil or heartache (beyond the hatred of bedtime). I envy his wonder, and his joyous excitement for a new day as he bounces around in his crib, eager to find what today’s world has in store. It is an eagerness, and a hopefulness, I hope to nurture in him always, and qualities I pray Dan and I find daily, of which Walt is a very exuberant (and often noisy) reminder.
The new year has brought a much enjoyed newly constructed learn and play space for Walt…who has lots of eager energy to burn.
Anything that can be touched, turned, moved, pushed, stacked, knocked down, or placed in his book bag (a decent attempt at clean-up) is a Walter playtime hit.
I love the above photo. Do you see that belly!?! This little man has shot up to an impressive 31.5″ and 23 lbs. Putting him in the 85th percentile for height, and 45th for weight. Falling below the 2nd percentile (and off the bottom of the chart) no more, Walter’s size is finally catching up with his big personality.
Walt LOVES coloring!!! (And almost never eats crayons…anymore.)
There was much clapping by everyone involved when he finally got that ring on the stick.
Walt is learning his fair share of words and can say “Mum”, “Dada”, “dog”, “baba”, and “yes” (among many other sounds).
If you were to ask for “teddy”, “baba”, “Elmo”, “book”, “bag”, or “ball” he would fetch it for you.
When asked, “Who’s Wally?” He points to himself (see above).
We certainly have lots of big changes going on around here, and we’re enjoying every minute of it.
To our wonderful family and friends, we send you our love always, and prayers for joy in the new year.
